I received an offer today from a new company that I’m super excited about! I have already signed the offer letter and submitted my information for the background check. My question is - when do I put in my resignation at my current job during this process? Do I go ahead and put in my two weeks while the background check is clearing? Or should I wait until I’m sent a contract for my new role? I want to ensure I time everything right. My new job start date is 5 weeks away so I’m not worried about timing on giving my current employer adequate notice, but I want to make sure I’m not jumping the gun on anything. I haven’t done this in almost 10 years! I have a weekly status with my boss on Wednesday afternoon (today is Monday) - is that too soon to let her know or is it likely HR at the new company will be farther along in processing my information?
