So I had a phone interview with a hiring manager a few days ago for a position I really want at a company I really like. It’s a large public company (~50,000 globally). The interview went well in my opinion. It felt like a good back and forth where I was selling myself but the manager was also really selling the position and the company. The position just recently opened though so when I asked about a timeline at the end of the interview he told me to give it about a month because he’s traveling to the other side of the country for 2 weeks and also doing other interviews (he said I was the second person interview for the position). It sounded like he was being honest and transparent, which I appreciate.
Obviously I’m applying and interviewing for other positions as well so I want to get other people’s opinions. Is being told to wait a month out of the ordinary? Did I misread the interview and was this just kind of a shoo-go-away tactic? I did press just a little for the timeline. I asked what the next step in the process was. He said “let’s finish this round of interviews first and then we can schedule something once we’ve narrowed the pool”. I essentially said “so give it about 1-2 weeks”. “No give it about a month because....”. I have third phone interview for another position tomorrow. It’s also a good position I think but I’d want to do an in person interview to see exactly what I’d be doing. I would really want to work at the first company, but obviously if I get a job offer I can’t tell them to wait a month. I think if I were to get the job offer for the second company it’d probably be within 1-2 weeks. How do you guys think I should approach this?
