I'm just here to vent, I guess. I've been searching for jobs for 7 months, and have gotten a lot of positive resume feedback, and interview feedback but in the end they always go for the better deal. What that means? Cheaper labor, more experience.
I ask a reasonable salary for the requirements within their pay range, so I'm not going too far over or too far under their limit.
Today I had a two hour second interview, and the first one was with HR last week. This week I spoke with the owner and senior HR rep. I had a great review from the Senior Engineer of the technical assessments, so I'm hoping this one comes through. But knowing the past, it's never a guarantee of a job. I even have relevant work experience in the field and niche of the company.
I can't even accept a verbal offer as an offer, which HR told me. I should be happy that I had a verbal offer, but I've had verbal offers retracted from me before.
This is what they don't teach you about in school kids. Work hard study hard, get a good degree that employers want you to have in STEM. Just because you're STEM doesn't mean it's not difficult to get hired.
Job searching has made me so jaded and cynical about corporate America that I can't even get excited like I used to with a verbal offer because I know that even one HR specialist can just vote against my offer and I won't get hired.
My new motto? Self employment or die trying.
