I’ve worked really hard at my job. I originally started off on a six-month contract so I knew I had to start strong. I missed 1/4th a day in six months, won employee of the month, and even helped organize some charity work our company does. My managers have complimented me and my work ethic. I’m told I’m great with others and I’ve discussed my long-term goals in excess.
Recently, an opportunity came open for a promotion. To apply, we have to give a quick overview of our experience and provide our resume. I did both. I waited for a response. Waited. Waited some more. Got an email today saying they’re going to “pass” because I “didn’t sound enthusiastic enough.”
I’ll be honest, I’m baffled. I’ve watched others start after me and get promoted before me because of various reasons (including nepotism). I tried not to let it bother me because I figured my moment was coming. I thought this was it.
This isn’t the first time I’ve been turned down and usually, I handle it better. I’m just at a loss as to what else I can do.
