Here are some background details.
- I live in the Cleveland area.
- I am 22 years old.
- I have no experience in a restaurant / bar environment.
Offer A is at a Dave & Busters
- It is located 14 miles out of downtown Cleveland in the center of a cluster of higher income neighborhoods and is the only one in the area.
- It is 20 miles, and a 27 minute drive from where I am currently living.
- I was offered a busser position which starts at $10/hr plus 1% of sales which they said averages around $12 or $14/hr afterwards.
- The opportunity to move into a role as a barback, server, or bartender is on the table down the road.
- The location has over 160 employees so opportunity is there though so is competition.
Offer B is at a Ruby Tuesdays
- It is located 15 miles out of downtown and is 20 minutes of a handful of upper middle class neighborhoods. Though it is in the center of a rural city and just on the edge of the boonies of Ohio.
- It is a 8 mile drive, but still 22 minutes from my house due to the lack of highways leading into this city.
- The pay is minimum wage which is $4.15/hr plus tips.
- I have an interview with them tomorrow but I am referred in by 3 friends who are employed there and have been told they are desperate for workers so I am likely to be thrust into a higher position at start or quickly following starting.
- This is at the expense of a much lower traffic establishment.
While considering this all or just considering Dave & Busters v. Ruby Tuesdays which do those of you in the field recommend?
TL;DR
Dave & Busters as a busser or Ruby Tuesdays (likely) as a server ?
Thanks!
