How do I answer Where do you see yourself in [X] years? and how can I write a thank you email ?

I don't know how can I professionally answer this question. I once said that I would like to be within the industry while still being part of academia. However I am not sure if that is a good response since I was told employers don't want to hear that, they want to hear that you will only stay dedicated in that one job.

Also I am not sure if I want to be even still in academia anymore and I am not sure what I really want to do in the future because I don't know what the future holds. Maybe I stay in the same position and I move upwards, I move to another job with a higher pay, or I go to a completely different field.

Also, is how I first answer the phone matters and how can I write a thank you email?

I will finally have a phone interview in one research organization I really wanted to work in because I like the projects and research that they do.
