I'm 5 years out of college in the North Jersey area. My degree is in Information Technology, but my grades weren't the best and I'm not sure it's a field I want to continue pursuing. I've also had to spend about four or so years taking care of an elderly relative as well as struggling with my own anxiety/depression issues. (Career coaches and staffing agencies I've gone to have told me to sell this as volunteer caretaking.) I've taken on a remote data entry internship and started volunteering at a local hospice's office to further pad out my limited experience.
I've been applying to various receptionist and admin assistant roles over the past few months, as I think it's work I could do and would be satisfied doing. I've been on five or interviews that I thought went well but I either did not hear back from or was told they went with someone "more experienced". I'm beginning to wonder what I'm doing wrong and feeling like I'm entirely unemployable. At this time, I'm unable to move and can't really travel more than 15 miles away from my home for a job.
