Do I really have to include irrelevant higher education on a resume?

I'm a self-taught graphic designer with nearly a decade of professional experience. Out in the job market once again, and I'm laying out a whole new creative resume.

I went to school for guitar building and repair (certification received), and audio engineering (did not graduate, financial reasons). In my area there's no market for guitar repair, and due to illness I have lost a significant portion of my hearing. Clearly, I'm not looking for those jobs at all.

So if my higher education is irrelevant to my professional experience and the job I'm looking for, is it really necessary to include it? I feel like it would be the "sore thumb" of my resume.
