I just interviewed last week for my dream job at one of my dream companies. The interviews went amazingly well. I was sure in my head I was going to be selected. I was really looking forward to leaving my current job (its a very toxic working environment) and starting fresh at a job I was really looking forward to.
I got a call yesterday and they said they were extremely impressed by my background and qualifications. They said they hired someone internally for the position. They asked if I would be interested in the same position but at a different location (on the other side of the country), which I cannot do as I am stuck in a lease. Nor do I have much interest living in that state. They said if it wasn't for that person I would have been selected but unfortunately they only had one position to fill.
The whole office environment at this location seemed so perfect. Since receiving this rejection I have fallen into a deep depression. I called out sick today. I can't stop crying. I feel like I failed. I don't know how to overcome this. I can't see myself going on much longer at my current job due to the office dynamics. I work in a really niche field so it's rare I even see job openings for my kind of work.
