There’s a coworker at my office who just had a child. She is 10 years younger than I and started several months ago with me and latched onto me very quickly. I know that she’s lonely and has no family around here, and her husband works on oil rigs out in the field so he’s gone for extended periods. I felt bad that she’s so lonely and needed a friend so I (warily) let her into my circle.
After a few months of our “friendship”, I started regretting letting her get close to me. I know she’s kind of socially awkward but my boyfriend started calling her “parasite” in private conversations with me when speaking of her for a reason. She’s very clingy and says things like about how sexy I am and she loves hearing about my life because she lives vicariously through me. Once when we were out shopping (first and last time I went somewhere with her), she pointed out shoes she thought I’d look hot in. I kept my distance from her and started working from home more to avoid her. Since she was pregnant, I would have felt like a jerk going to HR and complaining about her, so I have just maintained distance since she weirds me out so much. She has also tried guilt-tripping me, even early in her pregnancy, into cleaning her house for her saying she wants to take it easy, and part of our job entails carrying old record books in courthouses that weigh sometimes up to 10 lbs. and tried getting me to accompany her to the courthouse with her at the expense of my own time and job, to help her lift books she needs.
So, she just had her child and sent me a picture of her holding it (close up). Beautiful baby but she’s holding it next to her naked pudenda. Should I just keep my mouth shut and stay horrified by this and stay away from her or should I mention something to HR? There is a good chance she was clueless and sent this pic to someone else at the office but again, I hate to be the person that could get a vulnerable new mother fired. Any advice?
