I need surgery and must quit my retail job on the spot due to the holidays and scheduling. Quit via email or over phone? I feel terrible.

Just as the title says, due to medical conditions, and being unable to get a LOA because of holidays and scheduling, I need to quit my job. I'm not happy about this and feel terrible.
