I lied about my location. Is that ok?

I told an employer that I live in his city, but I’m actually living in a city three hours away. I’ve found that employers are more likely to interview candidates living nearby, and I have the money to rent out an Airbnb until finding a permanent place if I score the job. Is this a good idea or am I setting myself up for disaster?
