I currently work as a manufacturing/production engineer for a small sized company (50-100 employees). I have been presented a job opportunity that’s nearly a 15% increase in current salary.
The job itself is not at a production facility but an engineering firm, and is focused on sustainability. All of their manufacturing is overseas in Asia or in Mexico. The hiring manager asked me if I would be comfortable traveling overseas a couple weeks out of the year. I said yes, but now that I think about it, it’s causing me to worry. I hate flying and can barely handle 4 hour flights, but it doesn’t stop me from traveling places. I also worry I will catch some debilitating illness from the food and die, or die on the plane. Super irrational, I know.
I am interested in those who have had experience working as product engineers that dealt international travel, visiting manufacturers in Asia. How was it?
Again, I would only be traveling a few weeks out of the year. Work life balance is very important to me.
