I have been out of work professionally since January of this year. a few months ago I took on service sector jobs to make income. But the question always comes up as to why I've been out of work for so long. I explain to them that the industry I work in (HR Recruitment) is competitive in my area and I've been applying consistently but haven't been extended a job offer.
I hate that they ask this question bc it's a sore spot for me. Ever since leaving college I've had nothing but a series of temp positions with consequent chronic unemployment in between. One turned perm but it was a toxic work environment and we separated. Then it was back to temping.
I've revamped my resume to a functional format so they don't scrutinize my work history so incessantly. Recruiters say I have a decent resume but I don't seem to get all that many interviews and never a job offer. It seems like they're after a purple unicorn with 90% of what they're looking for, 5 years of experience and no blemishes whatsoever in their work history. I feel like I'm unemployable at this point.
