Very confused. I just received a job offer through an agency I never spoke to before and not through company HR.

This is how it began, I got a direct email from company HR scheduling my interviews and after speaking to HR, I do the interview and everything goes well(it's a large company). Now I get a call saying that I've been extended a job offer for a position. Except... I get the call from an agency I never heard of. I was too excited to say anything on the phone, the guy knew the interviewer's name and he says he'll so reference checks etc. But hang on, the site with the employment forms is talking about this being an assignment like a contract from time a to time b. Contract reads like an employment agency contract saying you go through them for everything, with my company being their client.

Now I don't know why they are talking to me. All I know is I made a profile on their site 6 months ago. Never heard from them or applied through them. Why is this happening?
