I currently work as a client service manager at a small financial planning firm. Great little company, but being in an office for 9 hours a day with 3 hours of work and not hardly any learning opportunities has finally sucked the life out of me.
I’ve been applying for mortgage loan officer jobs in the area and currently have two interviews, one for a loan processor, the other for a loan officer. I have two years consumer loan experience, but do not yet have my MLO license.
I got another response from a small company I applied too for a MLO position, and he wanted to do a quick call to go over what the position actually was. Its a MLO position that is commission only after the first three months. He said that the beginning salary will be comparable to whatever I’m making in my current position. I will be a w2 employee with full benefits and the ability to make my own schedule. The scary part is that I would have to be originating my own loans. I would need to create relationships with relators and network, and they typically have 1 loan a month come in from the companies they are the ‘preferred lender’ for, and that just gets handed out round robin around the office.
Has any one out there taken a position like this before? I don’t have previous sales experience but am hungry to learn and gain new experiences. The realtor I bought my house through is a family friend, and I have a call scheduled with him tomorrow to go over what the process looks like for getting in with a realtor company for referrals. I have a big family that would be more than happy to throw referrals my way as well. I’m just terrified of commission only because I have my own mortgage to pay!
