Hi all, this is my first post on this sub, and indeed Reddit, so hopefully I'm doing all this right...
So basically, I'm currently a university student and I've just finished my first year, and now I'm home for the summer. Long story short, I sucked at budgeting while at university and my accommodation was expensive, leaving me in a sticky financial situation (maxed student overdraft), and needing a job offering plenty of hours pretty quickly. Luckily, I landed said job, the pay is good, and my issue with money is essentially resolved, but I lied to my employer to get the job.
I basically told them I had intended to drop out, and work for them for the foreseeable future, provided I got the job. I was so desperate to land the job that I felt I needed to say this, as they would not have hired me had I told them I would only be working for the duration of summer break. I felt it only right at the time, to do whatever necessary to get it, as job availability isn't high where I live, and my financial situation is honestly pretty dire.
My plan then, was to tell them I wanted to work for them for the foreseeable future, then quit at the end of summer. But now I feel terrible about this, as they've said people have done this before, and have made it clear they didn't wish to hire me if this was my plan. I'd like to be able to leave the job at the end of summer on good terms, and maybe, as naïve as it sounds, work for them again next summer or in the future.
I feel quite guilty about what I've done and I've been considering genuinely dropping out because of this, as silly as it sounds. First year of university wasn't perfect, and I'm well taken care of in this job. I do ultimately wish to continue university however, so any advice on how I can communicate my desire to return to university with my employer, and go about leaving this current job on good terms, is greatly appreciated. Or even, some thoughts on whether dropping out of university for a pretty decent job is a good idea or not.
Tldr; I lied and said I wanted to work at my new job for the foreseeable future, but actually intend to leave at the end of summer to go back to university, and feel guilty about it.
