I'm in the process of working on an online job applications and reached a step where the company is asking if they can contact my previous supervisor. I'm on decent terms with this previous supervisor; however, he works for the company that I am currently employed at. I want to keep my job search confidential from my current employer and do not want this supervisor to be contacted. Are their any consequences to saying that they do not have permission to contact him? Would it be inappropriate to list someone else as a supervisor, who oversaw some of my work but was not my direct supervisor? Thank in advance for any insights you can provide!
