One year anniversary coming up at work: is it wrong to tell my boss that I want a raise because I didn't initially understand the scope of the work I would be doing?
I've been at my current job for a year. It's a great company with Silicone Valley-style perks like free breakfast and lunch, decent health care, extravagant work parties, etc. A bit of a workaholic culture but that's not a huge issue for me at the moment.
I came from a very abusive work environment at my old gig and was desperate for a job, so I accepted the offer from my currently employer quickly. My only problem is that, out of fear of scaring them away, I did very little negotiating with them. What I thought was decent pay for what I do actually ended up being me settling for too little because I was so excited to leave my old job, its poor pay, and its toxic environment. Also, my team has been described as an "elite" team which works directly with the CEO's clients. So, while my job title is a pretty basic and "low" one at the company for other teams, it's a pretty intensive and demanding one for my team.
I like the company but feel like I put in too much work for what I get paid. I know for a fact that my output is considerably more than what other people with my job produce at the company. I've had my boss say recently that I am "thriving" at the company, so she definitely likes me.
Would it be too blunt to put it this way? I like the company a lot but it's time to level up my life and seek new places if I don't get a considerable wage increase.
