I've been working at my current job for five months. I was originally hired for a customer sevice/data entry role, but I was promoted to a higher administrative position two months in. During my hiring interview I had discussed my interest in HR and wanting to gain experience in that area with the owner of the company, and they were really receptive about it- I was clear that I'm working on a degree in HR, and that's the job I would like to work my way into.
Within the past week, two people have given their notice and my boss pulled a few of us into a meeting to discuss dividing their work amongst us rather than hiring new people. We were also told by management, that there will be no raises until further notice because the business (it's a small company) is not making as much as it was this time last year. I spoke with my mom about this, and she recommended cutting my losses and looking for another job that'll pay better and provide more opportunities for me to work my way up.
I'm feeling a bit defeated because this is a company I was genuinely excited about working for and I really get along with my direct supervisors. My issue is them withholding raises (especially when they're adding more to our workload) and pushing me further into a department I have no interest in.
I'm fixing up my resume and planning on applying to other jobs, in another city. How do I leave without burning bridges? I'm already making a book of notes detailing my day to day tasks and how to complete them, for my replacement. Any other ideas to soften the blow and maintain a good professional relationship with my supervisors?
Sorry for rambling, and thanks for your input!
