Should I call?

Sorry for formating and grammar; I'm posting from phone.

In-house Lawyer vacancy interview for a large Banking and Finance company on April 16.

Interview went really smooth and I nailed the practical tasks they gave. They told me to expect some news in two weeks. Now sadly I dont remember the particular wording; if whether they promised clear-cut information regarding the vacancy results or something less.

Exactly one week later on April 23 they call and ask for two references. They want to call these people by phone and that I should notify these people to expect a call the following day, April 24, around lunch. I find two high end references in a couple of hours and send them back, they acknowledge the receipt.

For some reason they never called the references, but I didn't worry about that, they probably just wanted to see if 1.if I could get anyone at all and 2.if I could get someone significant.

It's now May 9 and I haven't heard anything. I've never been a fan of probing around HR work, as I feel that is intrusive and can leave a bad impression. But since this is a #1 Tier A+ job for me, it's actually messing with my performance in interviews in other jobs, that are good, but that I desire less.
