Just had a phone interview for a sales role with a Fortune 500 company. The interview could have gone better. I was a bit nervous and stammered often even repeating points I already made during the interview. Also I don’t think I gave a great answer to the sales questions I was asked. Outlined below is one of the questions:
- you make a cold call to a client pitching a product but the client mentions that he’s already purchased a competing and cheaper product from a different company and isn’t interested in ours. What would you do? Answer: I basically explained that I would highlight the disparities between the two products, emphasizing the added value the client would receive if he chooses to switch to our product.
Do you guys think that’s a good response? I think it just wasn’t enough. In practice, I know I would do well in that situation but I just couldn’t properly articulate how I would during the interview.
I asked the interviewer some pretty good questions and I wanted to have his email so I could ask more later when on but he was eager to end the call. I felt I had to keep him on the line so I could get his email address. In the end, I still had one or two questions to ask and a concluding statement to support my app but I couldn’t do these things because he was in a rush to end the call even cutting me off at a point. The interview was supposed to last about 30-40 minutes but I was on the phone with him for about 23minutes. Is this a bad sign?
Since I have his email, I was just thinking maybe I could continue to engage and correspond with him in hopes that I would remove the negatives he might have noted from the phone screen and eventually get called for an in-person interview. Is this a good idea?
