If I interview with a company and turn the job down, will that hurt my chances if I want to apply again in the future?
Through a convention after party/industry event, I met someone who works at a company I’ve always wanted to work for! It turns out they are hiring for a role i would be perfect for and they gave me their email to submit a resume for an interview. I would definitely like to know more about the job itself.
I’m unhappy at my current job but I have a HUGE project in progress that won’t be complete for at least a couple of months. This project is a huge milestone for my career and the type of project is well-regraded experience in my industry in general so I’d like to see it through.
With that said I am wondering if I should:
A: forego submitting my resume and let them know to keep me in mind if this role opens up again
B: take the opportunity, learn more about the job (to see if it’s even a good fit), then make my decision (likely a decline due to reasons above)?
I want to take the outcome that will allow me to have a chance with them in the future. Would either one of these put me at a disadvantage?
Edit: wanted to note I haven’t seen this job open in years so assuming turnover is quite low, which is why I even want to take the interview
