Let me share this weird job interview I had, a little of background first. I applied to a small company closer to my home for an analyst position I have experience doing for many years. I decided to dress professionally with a dress shirt and pants, without overdoing it. Anyways I get there and there's no reception, the first person I see is wearing a t-shirt, blue jeans, and running shoes. I introduced myself to him and told him I was scheduled for a job interview today. I stretched my hand for a handshake and he looks at me from head to toe and tells me to sit down and wait. He comes back and tells me the hiring manager is busy but he will start the job interview. He starts with the classic question tell me about yourself, so I start to talk but I noticed he is not making eye contact with me, in fact he is not even looking at me while I am talking, he is literally looking down at the floor or to the side looking at the window. He did this for every single question, sometimes he will look at me briefly when asking the question, or when he will try to correct me, but I always gave a good explanation about my answers, or strategies. Ten minutes later the hiring manager comes into the conference room, apologizes for being late, and said to keep going. I kept talking about whatever TShirt guy asked me before but I noticed that he's looking at me now, but he is really nervous. After am done talking, I saw the guy give a small signal to the hiring manager, and the hiring managers asks if I have any questions. I asked two questions and everytime am making a comment I can see and almost feel the guy's fear that I was making a good impression, or at least providing good insight.
As anyone else had a similar experience?
I feel that I should of told they guy why he wasn't looking at me, or walk away from the interview, but I reminded myself to be professional. I don't know if it's always worth it being professional when faced on these situations.
