How much of an impact does a credit score have on job prospects?

My credit score is pretty bad, and I worry it may ruin my job application.

I’ve applied to a company, and I know a person there through someone else. I’m pretty confident I’m a/the frontrunner for the job right now. But since its a financial job, I’m guessing they’ll run a credit check. All my debts are current, but my credit score is horrendous. What are the chances it’s going to ruin my application? What can I do/communicate to mitigate any damage it might do to my job prospects?
