How early to ask for a day off?

Family usually does a short trip for 4th of July. I’m typically not able to go because of work.

I just started work and I’d really like to go this year. 4th of July is on a Thursday so guarantee people will request Friday off.

I used to work for this company and I remember you having to request vacation 2 months or so in advance but it’s under new management now.

How early is too early to ask for it off? I also debated calling in sick Friday but I don’t wanna be too much of an asshole. My job requires a certain number of staff in each room to meet state requirements.

For preface I’m probably moving sometime in the fall and don’t plan on staying there.
