Alright, this is eating away at me and causing me to lose sleep so I had to put it out there (on a throwaway, no less). Apologies if this should've been in r/personalfinance or if this has been answered...I can assure you I've been combing reddit obsessively for similar questions asked.
Got an offer for my dream job, great salary, benefits, etc. The only problem - the job is in finance, it does in fact require handling sensitive data, and the offer is contingent upon a background and credit check.
I have about $8,000 in cc debt outstanding due to admittedly just being a stupid post-grad living beyond my own means for two years. There is no excuse, I was simply irresponsible. While I've reined in my spending and have that pesky card locked up in a place where I can't use it, that nasty "high" balance is sitting out there with my single card at roughly 70% utilization. I have never missed a payment and I have always paid beyond the minimum, but at this late in the game as the background/credit check process has already began, there doesn't seem to be much I can do to explain it all away.
I'm not going to make excuses for my poor spending behavior or play the victim here. I'm simply wondering if this is worth losing sleep over. Thanks.
