Hi all,
I'm very lost and need some advice. I'm F26, and got recently an offer for an intadernship with Big 4 for the audit practice in the Summer, starting full time in the Fall. I currently work in the HQ of a mid to large sized company as a Jr Accountant (40k/year). I gave my notice and they lost it. Now, they offered me a Sr FP&A Analyst position focusing on M&A, starting imediately, making 60k/year. I'm REALLY REALLY torn because I absolutely love the business and the people with whom I work, and I know that here I'm not just a number, which is what I'll be at the Big 4.
I've always thought that working for the Big4 was the ultimate goal in my career, and many doors would open. My boss sat down with me and tried to convince me that the experience as a Sr FP&A Analyst for M&A would be much more valuable 3 years from now than the Big 4 after 3 years. My boss also said that it is harder to get experience in Mergers and Acquisitions to have that under my resume than it is to get a job with the Big 4, and that such experience would be valuable if I ever decided to go to the Big 4 and work in consulting. My ultimate goal is to work in a more "creative" role, like in finance, rather than accounting. My boss also told me that if I ever decide that I want to try the Big 4, they'd give me recommendations and help me as much as possible.
My boss offered to enroll me in a Coaching Program offered by the head of HR where only the high profile talents of the company get personalized career coaching and meet every few weeks to discuss career growth in a one on one session.
This company is known for having long tenures as well, so its definitely a place I consider anchoring myself.
The problem is, i heard that you should never take a counter offer because it puts a target behind ones back. They seem very keen on keeping me though for some reason. I did get excellent reviews and praise from our team last year.
What do you think I should do? Stay or go?
