Hi everyone. I was let go from my job in late March. It's a long story, but my boss and I just didn't get along well (she didn't like me, and even admitted it), and have been working in government affairs for the last three years since graduating college and now I want to change my career path to something else.
I have realized that I absolutely hate DC and the culture. Especially when it comes to jobs in the arena I'm in. I have worked at major organizations (some everyone on here has heard of, and another that everyone in DC has heard of) and can't get interviews. I make sure to only apply to jobs where I fit the qualifications, and have had my resume and cover letter proofed by dozens of people -- from recruiters to people in the industry -- so I couldn't imagine that being the issue. It is by far the most frustrating thing, especially when I know I'm busting my ass to find a job.
I still don't know what I want to do with my life and these last few months I have lost any and all passion for everything. I have very little drive to get out of bed, and have zero aspirations. I haven't worked out in about a month and it used to e a huge part of my life, and find myself drinking pretty much every night out of sheer boredom. I realize I am more than likely depressed so I am moving back home to my parents house (FL) because my lease is up and I need a better support system.
Here is a link that sums up pretty well what I have been doing. I also have policy analysis experience and worked for a major SuperPAC during the 2016 election where I did project management.
Does anyone on here have any advice as to where my skills can be transferrable and make me competitive among other candidates? (I don't have geographical preference)
Also, any advice to get out of this funk? I've been feeling this way since about 2mo into my most recent job (early 2018). It was so bad at times, I sometimes would hope that I got severely ill or injured so I didn't have to go in for an extended amount of time (Never forget, and I've seen it on here multiple times, YOU WORK FOR A BOSS/MANAGER NOT a company)
Any and all advice helps, and I'm sorry I got a little long-winded, but if anyone has been feeling this way as well I totally feel your pain and hope this helps you too.
