Alternatives to using most recent employer as a reference.

I just got fired because they're phasing out the position I had.

I would use them as a reference but the manager didn't like me so I'm trying to think of how to make a fake reference as a replacement. It's dishonest but I need to pay my bills and don't want to live off of unemployment money and food stamps paid by tax payers. They gave me no notice, btw.

What do you suggest?
