So, I have been looking for a jon on-and-off for the past 4 years, and have had my share of very weird recruiter stories, but what happened to me on Wednesday tops them all.
A few weeks ago, I had applied for a job with a major US company. The requirements were a good fit for my qualifications, and I thought it might be worth just submitting my resume. Well, last week I received an email from one of the company's internal recruiters saying that she would like to speak to me about the position...great! She schedules a time with me, and although she misses the first appointment, she promptly reschedules and calls me as expected. I answer the call, and after our introductions, she says exactly the following:
"The VP was very interested in your resume, and I feel....."
and then the line drops. OK...it happens. I was on a cell, she was probably on VOIP...technology, you know...things happen. So I wait a minute for her to call me back (that is propper dropped call etiquette...right?). After 2 minutes with no call, I decide to call her back. Voicemail answers. I leave a message. I call again. Voicemail again. So, I send her an email. I then call her cell (which was listed on the email she sent me). Later in the day, still with no response, I send her another email. The next day, I send her another email with my updated availability. Still no call back. It is now 2 days later, and I still haven't heard from her.
I am not sure what happened or what to do. I literally did not say anything except for "Hello, this is Allen" when I answered the phone, and maybe I said "OK" once. I'm not sure how I could have offended her, but I have no idea why she hasn't tried to reconnect with me.
I was able to figure out who her manager is (thank you LinkedIn), and I am thinking of emailing the manager, not to get the recruiter in any trouble, but to ask if there is some other way I can get in touch with the recruiter.
Anyone have any other thoughts on what I should do? I would really like this job...
