Inspired by a different post, I wanted to share tips on how to properly launder/care for business or office clothing, gained from 20 years wearing them.
Firstly, rules on what to dryclean: - Lined clothing (jackets, skirts, slacks). Do not launder these items. Linings shrink or shred and ruin the item
-intricate pleats- if ironing one section messes up the look, dryclean only -fancy shirts i.e. tuxedo wear, or silk

It's easy, inexpensive and gets you several more wears out of that suit jacket!
Laundry Rules:
- wash all dress clothes in cold. Warmer temps cause stains to set, and wrinkles to form. -Permanent Press setting if possible.
- Normal setting for whites. Toss in some Oxyclean. Avoid bleach (breaks down fibres, shortens life of fabric)
-hang dry dress pants, shirts, and skirts.
-while slightly damp to the touch, iron on appropriate setting. Use starch sparingly. -tumble dry if in a rush, but remove from dryer immediately. Use low heat.
Handwashing: - wool sweaters, delicate blouses, tights etc -use liquid laundry soap, or Woolite. -fill sink or bucket with cold water -drop in clothes (similar colours only) -soak for 15 min, then gently squeeze -rinse in clean water -wring out most water, then roll up in a towel -lay flat to dry (on a towel) - hang dry blouses
Iron, fold etc once dry.
Folding:
-

focus on seams. Line them up! -make sure dress shirts are buttoned and collars flat
Ironing:
Smart tip: iron dark items inside out or place a pillow case between clothing and iron (to avoid those annoying marks the iron causes)
-start with the button section on shirts -iron the underside first to flatten out the button side and loop side -move to cuffs and sleeves- - next do the body of the shirt, moving small sections over the board. -next collar -finish by giving the bottom, shoulder and hem a final once over
Pants- start with pocket and zipper area -then line up pant leg seams and iron down the leg -flip pants over to do the inside seam -give a final look over, reiron any missed spots -hang immediately.

Ps ...using these laundry rules has saved me thousands in dryclean bills, replacement and repairs. I'm still wearing banker crap I bought a decade ago, and my clothes still look new!
