I had an interview today with a company, and they gave us 2 (what seem to be) prepaid cards in a gift bag at the end of the day (which contained other items as well). They said it was for helping with the costs of transportation and hotel booking and travel related to the trip, but kind of gave a vague and very brief description on what the cards could be used for. One is a prepaid American express gift card, and the other is an OmniCard Visa rewards card. I am not sure if they expect us to spend them only on what the costs were related to the trip, or if they are just giving us cash equal to the value of both of the cards as a form of thank you? The reason why I feel like it might be the latter is that they told us about the cards right at the end of the interview, when most of the expenses would have already been spent. Both cards also seem to be prepaid, so it looks like the company has already spent the money in getting these cards. Also, both were in a gift bag type of thing, so was this just a way of them saying thanks for taking the effort to come out, or should I only spend the value of my uber rides on my credit card bill?
Curious as to what peoples experiences have been and whether they have received any OmniCard Visa or American Express Gift cards in similar situations and whether it is ethical for me to spend it on non-interview related things?
