Job posting removed before application sent - should I send in my resume anyway?

Hi all, looking for some advice here. I found a job posting that felt right to me, at a company I have low-key dreamed about working at for years. I spent the last two days polishing my resume and cover letter. I opened their website to submit my application a few minutes ago, and the website said "Hiring for this position has been put on hold at this time." Awful timing. There are no other open positions I am interested in/qualified for. There is an email address for their HR department on the jobs listing page. So, here's my question: Should I email them? Should I send them my resume and cover letter and some note saying "I see that you've put the position on hold, but I wanted to send this your way in case something else comes up"? Or is that unprofessional - should I wait for another opening to appear? Thank you for your help.
