How do I mention a problem And my suggestion at work, without coming off as too aggressive?

At work, we have machines that are very up-to-date that run automatically and do not require a lot of setup time. On the other hand, we have older machines which are very manual, require a lot of manual labor, and take longer to run.

We have technicians running both types of machines, but we are short-handed and need engineers to run these machines, too. I operated as an engineer on 2 of these older machines for 4 years, and now that I’m at the same level as the other engineers, I believe technicians should help run the more manual systems as opposed to the automatic ones. Those are much more simple to run, and I never had help from a technician myself. Again, I would like to emphasize the word help, because I would be able to do a lot of the manual labor, but it doesn’t seem fair that the people who own the very automatic and streamlined units would need the same assistance from the technicians as the ones who have very manual units.

How do I discuss this professionally at work with the other engineers?
