Recently I made a goal for myself to learn something (tools, languages, etc.) related to data analysis. I've been thinking about topics like Excel, R, REDCap, etc. and am strongly considering some online courses on edX or something to achieve this. (But if you have any suggestions for in-demand stuff in qualitative and mixed-methods research, I'd be glad to hear them.) Because my current and only job is part-time, I have the extra time to devote to these courses before I get a second job.
To be clear, I'm not necessarily interested in the (rather expensive) certificate. I just want the skills to show off at work. Part of my job seems to be covering the "gaps" in other people's projects if they're short on people with the proper skills. (I'm definitely not complaining.) I feel I would have more opportunities for future projects, promotions, etc. if I at least had these qualifications.
Are these courses helpful or worth it at all?
