Hello everybody,
I'm currently employed as programmer in scientifically based institute, it's funny because I'm totally not science guy and only reason I'm working here is that they gave me job when I had no skills and was student at the university. I'm currently here more than a year, transferring from internship to part-time and then one month ago full-time job. My position remains relatively same but my only field-related colleague left last year so I'm kind of all alone on everything, my main function is development of several unfinished django projects related to chemistry, biology and networking. I like my job but after my colleague left, I feel that I'm not making so much progress as before, I'm only finishing my bachelors degree so I do not have the skills to discover new techniques and ways in doing my job in such a pace as he used to.
There comes the discussion, my friend is located in oracle and contacted me about them looking for people for DevOps team. My question is if it would be good carrier step to move to huge corporation from my job at science institute, would I generally learn more? is this treason to this scientific company which taught me everything if I moved to full-time just month ago? Is it generally correct move? Is there even chance for me to get a job when I'm not bachelor? Would job experience at huge firm look better than scientifit institute?
Just side info, I'm making same money as my class-mate friend tester at avast but with zero benefits. Also the building is old, computers slower etc etc. but I'm trying my best no to look at new building of oracle in my city as reason to switch companies, nonetheless it matters for me and I like beautiful working enviroment, also my friend tester's new macbook and phone looks fine, I know its totally unimportant but its harder to say than to really ignore.
