I work at a large university. On a whim, I applied for an open position in a different department than where I am currently, and was invited to interview. Based on what I'm reading online, it's recommended that you tell your current boss if you're applying for an internal position, but I'm not sure if this would count as "internal" since I'm moving to a completely different department. I've also only been working in my current position for 6 months or so, so I'm not really able to read the relationship I have with my boss that well yet. I know that letting my boss know I'm applying will lead to gossip, and will make my work environment very uncomfortable, but I don't want to be sneaky and unprofessional.
Has anyone else been in this situation before? Happy to hear any and all suggestions. Thanks!
