so recently, about two weeks ago i got hired as a server after finishing my server license and tabc. i was on training and was making 7.50 during training with no tips. once i got done training they pay $2.14 an hour with tips. the manager that interviewed me ensured around $100-$120 on a busy day id make in tips. today was a busy saturday and probably my 4th day serving, i only took home $60 in tips working a 10 hour shift. heres the deal, i never agreed to be scheduled for 10 hours. they had me from 1:30 to 9:30 meaning 9:30 was when i was supposed to be cut(stop taking orders) unfortunately the manager said 9:30 is a given and if its busy i have to serve until its not busy anymore. im also in school and i have an exam on monday and need ro study. these people are putting me on the schedule for times and days i never agreed to. as a server, is a company allowed to hold you in for extra hours against your schedule?? i feel this isnt fair at all ontop of that, once im cut, i have back of house and front of house duties to take care of such as bussing, rolling silcerware(which take freaking forever) emptying tea dispenser, stocking cups and sauces. and a few other smaller things. this isnt a freakin servers duty, why am i being made to do something for $2 an hour that someone who can be hired for minimum wage could do? they really needed workers and i feel i was lured into a trap. I have other things to do at home and cant sacrifice 10 hours a day on the weekend when i literally have so many other things ro do work and home related. i dont mind working that much if im making a good amount like $200-$250. the hourly wage ontop being very meager is also taxed as well as the tips. i feel this is extremely unfair. how should this be justified? im very disappointed right now and want to find another job elsewhere where i can atleast get a set schedule. these people are taking advantage of me and im nkt going to be nice to them.
