Lost a Job Opportunity for Texting Employers

Hello,

So yesterday I sent out a text to employers on what I assume was their personal phones. The text was your standard follow-up 'wondering if I'm still in consideration' kind of text. Today I got a text back saying that it was "wildly innapropriate" to text the personal numbers asking about the job after my interview. So, usually I would totally get this, but in this particular case, the number I texted was the number that the manager used to set up my interviews, so naturally I assumed this was the best way and most appropriate way to contact him and follow up.

Is the manager being comepletely unreasonable or did I really fuck up?
