Thank you for reading. After several months and nine interviews in 2 cities, I was offered a mid/ senior level position at a large multinational company. I signed the offer letter and completed the background check questionnaire through Sterling Talent Solutions. It asked for 7 years employment history. The last 5.5 years I have been employed with a similar large corporation doing similar work, however, the year and a half prior to that I was working with a staffing agency and I listed the job titles and dates of the two longest temp positions.
Sterling called the staffing agency who verified my dates of employment, but they had me listed as "administrative assistant" when I was actually doing international policy work. My job titles as I knew them were basically "temp" so I put "Policy Associate (temp)" on my resume. Sterling sent me the background check report as "completed" and I was all clear for criminal history, credit check, drug test, education verification and my most recent employment, but it stated "discrepancy" next to the job title for those 2 temporary positions.
The company hasn't brought this up to me (I just received it about 24 hours ago) so I called and emailed my recruiter and let her know that I could put her in touch with my contact at the staffing agency who could better verify my positions.
I haven't heard back. Do you think I'm over-reacting or is this a big deal? I feel like the company will reach out to me to explain if they're concerned. If it matters, neither of the temp positions were in my current field and wouldn't have been a selling point.
