Hi everyone,
I have an inter-company interview this Wednesday in another department. I’m a community newspaper reporter, and this interview is at a magazine within the company. Let’s refer to the magazine as COMPANY A. Well, I also have an interview for a job at a university, which I want more and has much higher pay, but that interview isn’t until the 25th. The hiring lady at this university, COMPANY B, seems very interested in me. COMPANY A seems to want to bring someone on fast. If they give me an offer before my interview at COMPANY B, how long is appropriate to ask for until I give them my final decision and what’s an appropriate response? I’m thinking of letting them know vaguely that I have some “stuff going on” but I’m still interested in the position and would like to be able to get back to them by the end of the month. Is that too long? If I receive an offer from A, should I tell B at the end of the interview that I have an offer elsewhere and need to give them a decision by a certain date? Sorry if this is confusing. I appreciate the help!
TL;DR I have interviews at two companies two weeks apart from each other. I want the farther out one more. How do I handle this if I receive an offer from the first place?
