Increasing base pay for entry-level engineering position?

I got offered a position with one of the huge aerospace corporations. They are offering me $78k off the bat with a relocation plan, but the position is in suburban LA, where the rent alone runs $2k+. I had a previous offer I declined for a company on the east coast where they offered $85k. The 85k is much more reasonable to live on in LA - I'm not sure what the best way to try to increase my offer would be. I'm straight out of college, this is my first industry job. I've had some internship experience which doesn't really help all too much, but I do have a lower-level security clearance which otherwise I'd have to wait until next fall to work while it cleared. Does anyone have any ideas of how to avoid losing the offer, but getting them to bump my salary up? The money would really help me be able to start saving while getting my feet on the ground.
