I’m a former nonprofit director with two grad degrees who has been looking for almost any related government job for months (secretary level if need be). Not even a call. How do you get a government job?
After getting an MPA and MSW, I tried for 2 months to get a job in government human services programs/agencies (which combines all my degrees and experience) but never even a phone call. Then I decided if I could get a position there that was below my qualifications or even any government job, it would be a good enough starting point since it’s what I really want to do. After another 2 months of applying for all of THOSE, not a call. After giving up and applying for specialist positions in my other grad degree/field (social work), I have 6 offers after 2 weeks.
So yeah. How the heck does anyone get into government work?
