Back Story: Last week I received competitive job offers from 3 companies. I countered with all of them and then decided to go with the highest paying company. (Save your "it's about more than the money" soap box stuff for someone else).
Yesterday, I got an email from one of the companies that I turned down. My would be manager said that he doesn't want to lose me due to compensation and "if comp is any part of the decision let’s have another discussion". I'd like to seriously consider his offer, but i'm unsure of what to ask for.
The company is pre IPO (apparently they are targeting to IPO in 1-2 years) and based in SF.
I'm looking for advice on how I should counter. TBH I think it will be a great place to work, but I really like to maximize my earnings. I've been told that I would likely get a promotion within 6 months of working there because I was "just under the bar for a sr position".
While my instinct is to ask for a higher base, my concern is that when I get my promotion, I won't get much of a raise if I am already on the high end for comp for that title.
Initial Offer:
Base: $125,000 After Bonus: $146,875 $10k relocation 3k RSUs (Estimated current value: $13/share) Then their response to my initial counter:
Base: $140,000 After Bonus: $164,500 $10k relocation 3k RSUs (Estimated current value: $13/share) Their bonus is 17.5% and is payed out almost always 100% (based on company and personal performance). It is paid quarterly (so 4.375% of base annual salary is paid quarterly). The full bonus has been paid out about 95% of the time the company has been around.
Any insight on how I can counter would be appreciated!
