Hiring Managers, what makes a potential employee's cover letter and resume stand out before the interview process? And also how can I stand out when I know at least 120 people applied for the same role?

I've grown in my industry and there is currently no room for growth within my organisation. So I want to make a lateral move to a high-profile organisation with room for growth and opportunity.

Overwhelmingly, I've seen some job postings on LinkedIn and I've noticed jobs that I qualify for, have 130 applicants. I already want to give up. I've given up on graduate roles because my GPA sucks but my work experience is decent and I'm really passionate, curious, mathematical and a naturally fast learner. I guess I have a pretty good character and learning attitude but not sure how to manifest that within an application.
