Highly specialized tech roles with skills that won't transfer.

I work a job with proprietary technology that is specific to the company that I work for. I have a liberal arts degree (in Media) so I am lucky to even have a job, but every job out of college has been a bit like this: company has software/hardware I have to learn, but there is nothing else that exists like it so my learned skills can't really be put on a resume. I'm not sure how to get out of the trap of finding temp work with skills that won't carry over into a real career.
