26M, working sales in the legal sector. My base salary is £21k plus commission. My colleague, 35M, does the exact same job put is on £36k plus commission. I have been at this job a year in March, he has been in the job 8 months. He came from a high paying job in a different industry before deciding it wasn’t for him and is also obviously 11 years older, so I understand they had to give him an incentive. However I feel such a huge difference in our salary is completely unfair. His salary is something I shouldn’t know, and I only found out by reading a file on my boss’s desk that I shouldn’t have, although he isn’t exactly secretive about his wage. I don’t know how to raise this as an issue to my boss or ask for a pay rise.
