A little background - I work in a niche field that is dominated by 2-3 large companies directly competing for business from a specific potential client base. I've been with my current company for 7 years and am one of our top performers, leading one of our more successful teams. There's recently been a significant downturn in benefits for employees here and I would like to see what type of offer I could get from a competitor to switch companies. I think they would be willing to make a compelling offer to change over, as this is very much a talent/relationship driven business. However, I don't know how to reach out to the other company in a way that would be professional and not get back to my current employer. If I reach out to a recruiter at the competitive firm would they be required to keep the information relatively private?
