Hello there!
I'd like some opinions on this one reddit!
I am about to move to London from a smaller city in the next few months. The company I am currently working will probably want me to continue with them on a similar position (store manager + some extra responsibilities // 20k per year). The company has expressed their interest to transfer me there and increase my salary and I think they would be willing to give me up to 25k per year. Best case scenario would be to get 27-28k while getting more responsibilities as well. I love doing what I do and I would want to climb up the ladder regardless of the stressful everyday life.
In London however, I might have an option to gain a qualification relevant to my field, by going to a different company. This would bring down my salary a lot as these type of trainee jobs usually pay minimum wage with best case scenario getting up to 19k a year. However, once done with the qualification I will probably be able to negotiate a salary starting from 23-25k (with less responsibilities and stress) and probably gain another qualification not long after.
The current job has a lot of positives-despite the stress-and could potentially help me grow within a/the company environment. It is ok for now but I am ready to do the extra step and get more responsibilities. If not, I must admit I do not find it challenging enough. I do not want to just ask for more money but I would like to have a say on what's happening and make a name for myself.
The other option will be a pain in the ass for the first few months- I might need to find another job just to get by- in one of the worst companies in the field, but it will probably lead me to a qualification that will open a few doors for me in the future, either professionally or academically.
So, what do I do? Try to grow within the company, make a ''corporate name'' for myself or go for the other option and let the qualification make things easier for me? I understand that it is a matter of what I would prefer to do but I was wondering if I am missing something regarding future possibilities. Will a managerial position (best case scenario getting some responsibilities with operational procedures) help me find an even better job in the future? Will the stress kill me though and is there enough caffeine in the world to keep me running?
Will a qualification though make things easier in the future? Is the field I am working filled with qualified people that do not have any managerial experience?
